2026 CHECKPOINTS

What to verify before choosing.

Federal repayment options changed in 2026. Do not select a plan from a name or an old article alone; confirm your own loan dates, type, status, and current servicer instructions.

01

Loan dates matter

Loans first disbursed before July 1, 2026 can have different plan options from Direct Loans first disbursed on or after that date. Check each loan and any consolidation history.

02

Compare the new paths

Current federal guidance describes the Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) and Tiered Standard Plan for the new repayment structure. Eligibility and formula details depend on the loan history.

Do not rely on old SAVE info

Borrowers previously in SAVE should read their actual servicer notices and the current federal transition instructions. A past payment amount or old eligibility article may no longer apply.

Do not rely on an estimate as an official quote

Our estimator is for general illustration only. It does not access your loan account, determine program eligibility, or calculate an official income-driven payment. Confirm all terms and amounts directly with Federal Student Aid or your servicer.
